Sassetta

Sassetta is in the province of Livorno in the Coast of the Etruscans, in the midst of chestnut forests. The name of the Sassetta was awarded in 1238, Latin derivation, from saxum that rock. Sassetta, extends between the valley of the river Cornia and the river Cecina, in the western part are together Mount Calvi Campiglia, with hillocks of Castagneto, county Della Gherardesca. The emblem used by this ancient town is a tower of silver pieces of two embattled open and finestrata. Other works of art can be admired in the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle where there is a Romanesque baptismal font bearing the emblem of the Sassetta Orlandi, a Madonna painting of considerable artistic value, author unknown, 400, and a rare cross Rock Crystal, sec. XV. The territory of Sassetta, geographically, extends between the valley of the river Cornia and the river Cecina, while Ponente to join Mount Calvi, Campiglia, with hillocks of Castagneto, county Della Gherardesca.
